Conservation is an important feature on our farms, and is actively pursued by the Directors of the company.
In 1983 the Otter Trust successfully introduced a breeding pair of otters to the River Sapiston on our Ixworth Thorpe estate. They have successfully bred in almost every year since.

On the same estate we have 144 acres of land under ESA agreement, together with two uncropped wildlife strips and there are conservation headlands on most wheat fields.
The estate has 35 miles of managed hedgerow and 109 acres of woodland. One and a half times as much as when we acquired the unit in 1962.

150 species of birds have been recorded on the estate of which about half actually breed there.
The company has won many wildlife and conservation awards.

Out of 22 ponds at Ixworth Thorpe, 16 have been incorporated into wildlife habitats. The estate has a farm trail and bird reserve, which is open to the public by appointment.
