Parsnips
800 acres of Parsnips are grown, with a cropping season from mid July through to May. The crop is grown on owned and rented land. Parsnips are harvested daily, with the first loads arriving at Frederick Hiam Foods each morning at 06:30 for washing, grading and packing. The majority of the Parsnip Crop grown by the business is marketed under the Frederick Hiam brand in the UK and increasingly into mainland Europe.
To ensure that Parsnips can be harvested even in heavy frost and snow an area of Parsnip crop is covered with a protective layer of straw.
With peak demand for Parsnips being in the 3 weeks around Christmas the Harvest Teams are geared up to lift and cart 40% of our crop in this critical 3 weeks!
